There was a small wooden gazebo built out over the water; Isabelle was sitting in it, staring out across the lake. She looked like a princess in a fairy tale, waiting at the top of her tower for someone to ride up and rescue her. Not that traditional princess behavior was like Isabelle at all. Isabelle with her whip and boots and knives would chop anyone who tried to pen her up in a tower into pieces, build a bridge out of the remains, and walk carelessly to freedom, her hair looking fabulous the entire time. . About This Quote

This quote is a play on a well known quote from Charles Dickens' book, "A Christmas Carol": "There was a small wooden hut built out over the water; and there sat the Ghost of the boy that had once lived there; and as the waves went by, the Ghost lifted up its voice and said, "O my Father! my Father! Will you leave me here alone, all this bitter night? I am so cold and I am so hungry." And this was heard by an old man who was sailing upon the sea; and he turned his ship's head towards that part of the coast where dwelt the miserable boy. And it happened that he walked upon the beach at that time; and when he heard what the Ghost said, he looked upon it, and saw what was very plain, that it was a little wooden hut built out over the water. So he went aboard again, and made his ship fast to the shore; then went with his crew to where dwelt the miserable boy. When they came to where he lived, they found no one at home.

And as they stood wondering what should be done, there came up two men of war against them; who bound them fast in their ship; and carried them away to foreign lands. Yet even there they found no rest: for by night and day they heard those words: "O my Father! my Father!" But at last those men grew weary: and said one to another—'This boy is not worth all this trouble.' Then they left him, saying one to another—'Let us go back.' But still those words came up from out of the darkness—'O my Father! my Father!'
